The opinions of others can significantly influence how, when, and whether we take action for ourselves, donโ€™t they? When we โ€œgo for itโ€ on some level, we desperately desire the approval of those we know, like, and/or respect.

Nevertheless, there are instances when folks in our social circles fail to congratulate us or remain silent in the face of victory.

It seems counter-intuitive that someone would go through the trouble of getting a front-row seat for a show if that person is not a fan of the show.

But when it comes to our personal lives, this happens often.

This might not be too fun to acknowledge, but itโ€™s possible that some of the people who have the closest view of our lives (significant others, friends, family members, coworkers, etc.) may not be rooting for us to succeed.

Sadly, there are situations when the people in the figurative โ€œfront rowโ€ of our lives are actively hoping for our failure.

Why?

If you get a promotion, lose excess weight, get out of debt, quit smoking, find true love, or do something life-enhancing, some people can become threatened.

To them, it would be far easier if you just stayed small.
